Blue Rooster to Hold Celebration of Halfway to St. Patrick's Day
To celebrate Thursday, September 17 -- or halfway to St. Patrick's Day -- the Blue Rooster Bakery & Cafe will hold a special evening of music and fundraising.
Celtic singer/songwriter Paula Ryan will perform at the Rooster. A special dinner menu item, meanwhile, will be created. Proceeds from that dish will be donated to the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank.
Karen Finigan, owner of the Blue Rooster, said the evening will speak to the core values of the restaurant, which is celebrating its first anniversary in September. "When we think of ourselves as part of the food industry, we feel an obligation to fight against hunger," Finigan said. "From the begining, we have identified hunger and homelessness as issues which would always be forefront in our community efforts."
Paula's insightful songs are inspired by the lyricism and musical passion of her Irish Gaelic roots. She has performed her songs on radio and TV in the UK, Ireland and the USA.
Paula's songs have received international acclaim.
In 2006, Paula was a finalist in one of Ireland's leading song contests - the Clonmel National Song Contest and in 2007, her song 'The Red Rose' received an Honor Award from the Great American Song Contest.
In 2008, another of Paula's songs 'The Faintest Touch' received an Honor Award from the Great American Song Contest.
"I’m delighted to be part of this event in support of the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank which does wonderful work responding to the food needs in the community. I am always looking to use my passion for music to do something really worthwhile," she said. "Music can change the world and it is wonderful to have an opportunity by literally raising my voice in song to raise not only money but also awareness to help the underserved."
